I picked this book up off the shelf, and I have to say, I wasn't really impressed. It wasn't anything super or any information that I was too interested in, and the layout is not what I prefer (the patterns were in a section of their own after the pictures).
An interesting book for sweater construction, including a wide variety of styles and the creation of a sampler to help learn the construction. Not my favorite knitting book, but worth a look.
This was a fun book. A lot of interesting and *exciting* things to knit :) I liked some of the nighties.
I am happy to say I requested this book and our library didn't get it and now they own it :) This is the technique I want to try - two at a time on two circular needles. The only drawback to this book is that all of the patterns are top down instead of toe-up, so there isn't as much variablity to her method. However, this is a great place for me to start. There are 8 patterns other than the primary technique sock, and they are pretty. Nothing super crazy-cool, but some nice stuff. Between this and the other tutorials on the internet, I'm excited to cast on for my first pair of two-at-a-time socks!
A wonderful book that not only contains a wonderful round up of fibers, but super patterns too! I love Amy Singer, she is brilliant. There are a lot of patterns that scale up to bigger girls. The cables of Morrigan in calmer are beautiful. The Cables and Os cardigan looks pretty but very practical in a cotton/linen blend (I wonder if cotlin would work for this). My very favorite is the Tuscany shawl out of Handmaiden Silken in ruby red. wow, this may be more usable than Mimosa, the other shawl I want to knit.
This is a really cool background into socks, including a lot of historically inspired socks. There's a lot of stitch patterns in here too. I really enjoyed the Estonia heart lace socks. My favorite was actually the cover socks, the Scandinavian Socks with two color stripes on the toe, heel, and cuff because that was quite unique. I recognized some of the designers before looking at the name, and that was fun. :)
I was interested in understanding Magic loop a little more. I still feel like it's too fiddley with having to adjust the needles each half of the round. But I am really happy to have read it and tried it out because this is a great book! And this is a great book even if you don't want to use ML, you could still get a lot out of the 17 patterns. Some of the cables (Belle Epoque, Be Mine, Athena) are beautiful. There is good and diverse yarn selections, which is nice. The Coquette makes me really want to knit with Regia Bamboo, it looks so silky.
Another popular and recent knitting book that our library got, so I took a chance to read through it. It had a lot of lacy patterns with a wide variety of yarn. Some of the neatest actually join multiple yarns in interesting ways. There weren't any patterns I was really excited about making, but some of the wraps and shrugs were cool. If I were really skinny, I'd make and wear the Shapely Symmentry Sheath!
This was one of the relatively new knitting books in the library system, so I checked it out. There are a lot of little luxurious ideas here, divided into 4 chapters: Eclectic and Quirky, Textured and Modern, Pretty and Feminine, and Traditional and Folk. There weren't any patterns I was really drawn to. I think things are just a little too luxiourious or fanciful for my knitting style at the moment (which is fairly utilitarian). The Sarah purse is pretty, with nice fair isle in soft colors. And I like the Emma hat, but I'm not sure who I would make it for, as I don't wear hats. The Catherine purse reminds me of the *idea* of my craft bag, being round with a base. The construction of the Alicia tabbard is probably the most cool thing, with a diagonal cable!
I was curious about the idea of mosaic knitting, and how it worked. Basically, you knit each row twice, slipping the stitches that are in a different color. This saves you from having to carry two colors at one time like fair isle. It producies a cool squarey module with a lot of possibilities. For my knitting time, though, I'd rather do fair isle. Holding two strands isn't that hard for me, since I already knit continental despite learning the opposite. But I'm glad I got this book to understand the concept. I tried a few swatches out and feel like it's one more thing I could do if I wanted to!
This is a book by one of the knit bloggers I read, crazyauntpurl.com. I thought there would be more knitting scattered throughout the book, ala Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, but this was a lot more about Laurie's life. Even though I might not have picked it up with a title like this if I *hadn't* thought it would be more knitting, I'm sure glad I did because it was quite inspirational how she picked herself up. And there are patterns in the back :)
