And on that note, here is what's on my needles on this glorious What's On Your Needles Wednesday:

1) Nora Gaughan's Brea Bag, 2) International Sock of Doom #1, 3) Non-Lopi Scarf (as seen in a previous entry). Wicked (sweater) and a few other small things aren't here because they're on hold. I have cast-on-itis. It's bad.

As far as the thesis goes ... chapter 2 is on page 15 and I'm still talking about the first theme. I have two more to go, and then a whole other analytical chapter! And perhaps another one after that. What's wrong with me?

And just to wrap things up, I'm going to try one of those Quote of the Day things.

What do you do when you get a crush on someone?

I rarely crush on anyone, because as Bender so eloquently put it: "Emotions are dumb and should be hated." Sometimes I wish I'd crush on someone, but 99% of the time I remember how frustrating it is and I don't really have time for that. Ouch.

This bag by Drops is the free pattern of the day. I really like bags that are not felted, like this one. It can be found here. It is knit in a bulky weight yarn on US 8 needles. I think that this would make a really tight fabric which would be perfect for a hand bag. Check it out. It would also make a great summer project, in that, it would not be too hot to knit.

Utopia hat

The Utopia Cable Hat is totally awesome. The cable pattern is very unique and looks fairly simple to achieve. Not only that but it's a hat so it is perfect summer knitting material. The pattern can be found here. Hope you enjoy that one.

Now, on to my own knitting news. It's bad news. I had to totally frog Circley (aka Circular Shrug) and I was, oh, 15 inches in. The amazing thing about it is I am totally not even bummed out. I just ripped it out last night and I cast on the right number of stitches today. Does the fact that I didn't mind and am just happy to be knitting mean I am a process and not a product knitter? I don't know.

The last few days have been filled with music theory to degrees beyond most human comprehension. I liked it. Now I'm back to putting off the writing of my thesis by knitting.

Here is what I cast on today:

The pattern is Lopi Lace Scarf from Weekend Knitting. I picked this book up on a whim a few weeks ago, and I absolutely adore it. There are recipes for cookies, tips for brewing tea, and all sorts of wonderful things that make me happy. The patterns are all great as well. This one in particular is really great; it's easy to memorize and knits up quickly. The yarn is Moda Dea Beadnik, which has fun little beads threaded through it. So far a lot of them have ended up on the wrong side of the scarf, but it still looks nice. I also love the color.

Getting Started

The yarn I chose is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK in #11, a sage-colored green, a darker shade than what's in the book. Needles are size 5 straight and size 5 DPN. All my supplies arrived this week and I'm starting tonight!

ripe tomato!

I finished my Tomato tee today! (Ravelry project details.) I'm very pleased with it. I have to say that I was a bit anxious how it would turn out when I tried it on before washing it. It just looked droopy and not very flattering.

But, Pakucho is magic in the washing machine. All the knitting evens out and it shrinks about 10% into a wearable garment!

I am quite pleased with it. Someday, I think I want to use this yarn to make a long sleeved cardigan. I was going to say cabled, but I already have one of those, so, I'll just have to keep thinking.

Save the children's Knit Kit

Knitting a hat for a newborn baby can help save its life. Telling politicians to do their bit could save the lives of millions of newborns each year.

A newborn baby can't regulate its own body temperature. It loses lots of vital body heat through its head which make it more prone to pneumonia - a disease which still kills around 2 million children each year.

Made one last night and part way through second. And I can use some of that knitting stash thats been growing through mumblemumble years. And they're easy to carry for the odd moment or journeys (but not knitting needles on aeroplanes, I guess)

on chocolate tomatoes and bringing things out of hibernation

I am a sneeze away from being done with my Organic Chocolate Tomato tee. I've been quietly knitting away on it. It's hard for me to tell if it's going well, since it will shrink 10% when I wash and dry it the first time. It doesn't look great now, but hopefully that will change. I also have mixed feelings about the colorwork, but I think I will like that much better after washing as well. Washing fixes everything!

The thing washing won't fix is that the ribbing on the one sleeve I finished is too loose. I'm going to reknit it with smaller needles. Cookie helpfully pointed that out to me, but was kind enough to also warn me not to show her my sweaters, because she'll always find something wrong. Duly noted, Cookie!

I have also pulled my Lotus Blossom Tank out of hibernation. It was actually pretty much finished. I had sewn the shoulder seams and just had to finish around the edges and it was done. But, it wasn't right. I did two sets of short rows for the bust and that was too much. In addition, I hadn't knit far enough on the sides so it did some ugly angling things. I ripped back to right before I started the second set of short rows and I'm moving forward. It might even be done in the right season!

Hello everyone. My name is Adriana and I am new to the group. I would love to say I am an avid knitter but nothing could be further from the truth. What I am is a woman interested in learning to knit, and when I saw this group I thought it would be a great start! I look forward to seeing pictures of knitting and learning from all of you.
